Apple versus Google

"It's only rock and roll but we like it" event Liveblog

Today's event, marking the return of Steve Jobs from a liver transplant, is now available online at Apple in both streaming and downloadable files.

2:15...that's all folks. I post the link to Apple's video of the evet when it goes Live. thanks for coming and see you next time

2:10 There is no new iPod Touch. (They've been delayed. Apple is shipping large/cheaper versions of the old on for the moment. That prototype and all of those Cases will have to wait it seems.

2:05 Shows the new iPod Video

2:02 Steve's back for the one more thing : Cameras! on nano. - to compete with the Flip. Shows thickness - Nano is like 5 tmes thinner than the Flip - which has a 5 times better lens.

FM Radio to Nano, also Mic (for video and notes). Pedometer. That's quite a little device.

2:00 Shuffles now come in colors. Meh.

1:58 Shuffle now there are headphones that have the controller built in (might has well just put the Shuffle in the headphones, it is so small)

1:55 iPod Classic same price, new Size 160GB

1:52Phil is back - the Touch is the most affordable way to the App Store $199...new iPod Touch starting price.

32GB - $299

64GB - $399

1:50 Travis Boatman from EA on stage. Lots of Sports titles. Some look very nice!

MADDEN!

I kinda feel like Game Demos are better for Youtube....not a Keynote

1:47 Gameloft now demoing Space Marine1st person shootup

1:45 Phil slipps that you can put your photo with camera whil etalking about iPod - that means Camera iPods, as if you didn't already know...

1:40 Phil Showing Game demos. Good for some, not me. Tapulous and Assasin's Creed. I taking 5.

1:38 Phil talkin Games now. iPhone absolutely killing Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. They almost had to make the graph bigger than the screen to show iPod numbers

1:35 Phil still talking says computer in pocket then there's a picture of a Dell computer in someone's pocket. (Didn't Dell just release a smartphone in China?)

1:30 Phil Schiller rehashing sales numbers- 20 million iPod Touches. Goes over why they are so good (browser/email/video/iPod)

1:25 Showing off iTunes LP. verycool stuff - lots of special videos and content

1:20 Facebook and Twitter integration in store. You can also gift and buy tracks

1:19 showing of the new store. total redesign. This is what I was talking about earlier

1:18 iTunes has been cleaned up. cleaner interface

1:17 iTunes LP is cocktail. Liner notes, videos, credits and other customized content.

1:16 allows ou to drag and drop family music between sharing computers (kinda like iPhoto) Shows Jobs' Wife's iTunes (first time she's been mentioned before I think)

1:15 Home sharing - allows you to copy music to up to 5 (what about the Duggers?) members of your family. A Home iTunes server would be cooler IMHO

1:14 App synching and management allows you to manage your pages from the computer (easier than the phone

1:13 Improved synching. Totally new interface in iTunes 9. Smart Synching. Just Dylan? Just Playlist, etc.

1:11 100,000,000 itunes accounts with Credit cards - #1 music retailer in the world.

1:05 Steve Jobs on Stage - Standing ovation! - 1 hour of applause ensues

1:02 Lights dimming

1:00 Stones playing after short break "It's only rock and roll"

12:59 Eric Schmidt in attendance. Maybe some parting words later?

12:57 Apple confirms first French Apple Store at the louvre

12:55 Five minutes left. Got to the bathroom, and carbo load. Might want to put up do not disturb sign on the cubicle

12:45 Not just iTunes LP but lots of new stuff hitting iTunes. New look and feel.

12:40 Cocktail will be called "iTunes LP" and and require iTunes 9?

12:10 You know, this is the first time I've ever seen a Keynote without knowing who was presenting. Apple usually says something like a "team of Executives" or something. this time. Nada. All builds suspense I guess.

12:00 getting settled in. I wonder how, whoever is keynoting the event will handle the iPod touch issue? Seems like they aren't going to be here soon.

OK, its 11:00 Eastern time here. This morning has been quite interesting. Apple slashed prices on its current iPod line (only for a day?). It think it means current iPod touch models might stick around for a bit.

Also an analyst thinks the AppleTV will get a browser.

Also, one site thinks there will be no new iPod Touch forthcoming.

In the meantime, check out my predictions of what we'll be seeing.
