Apple versus Google

Google Dictionary makes its debut

New Google services are coming fast and furious these days.  Today, amongst other things, Google released its Dictionary project.  It is pretty much what you'd expect: You look up a word and Google gives you definitions from various trusted sources, they don't keep any of the information themselves.

Google uses the same model they use in Google News.  You get a title of an entry and a snippet from what Google considers to be dictionary sources.  IT isn't apparent how sources are ranked.

For instance, if you look up "Google" in the Google dictionary, you get a bunch of entries from a number of sources like so:

Google offers many language options as well.

The service isn't much different that if you put "define:google" in the normal search bar:

Google dictionary also includes recent searches and favorites on a bar to the right which may come in handy if you are a frequent dictionary user.  I'd like to see an API for use in third party applications.  In fact it wouldn't surprise me to see this used in Chrome/ChromeOS.
