Apple iPad: Questions about the keyboard and missing mouse

Is the on-screen keyboard on the iPad going to be practical? It's a full-size keyboard that you type on like a regular keyboard, but with no tactile feedback, and it's also part of the display. It looks awkward. It looks especially awkward for touch-typists who are used to typing without looking at their hands. Somewhere, Mrs. Cunningham, my 10th Grade touch-typing teacher, is sobbing gently to herself.
I was hoping for something like the Swype keyboard.
Gizmodo's Mark Wilson spent some time with the device, and he found typing on the iPad somewhat clumsy:Â
Typing in portrait is better than anticipated but still quite a stretch for our average-sized hands, which means that letters like F G and H will take a moderate conditioning for some. What about in landscape mode, sitting flat on the table? Well this is problematic too, as the iPad sort of wobbles. The back is not perfectly flat, meaning your typing surface is never perfectly flat, so the virtual keyboard becomes that much more difficult to use.
I'll reserve judgment until I've used it. I suspect Apple is smarter than me on this one. If all else fails, you can probably put something under the edge of the iPad to keep it from wobbling when you type. I'm thinking a couple of pencil erasers from an art-supply store would do nicely.Â
I'm just guessing here. I haven't played with the thing. I've had no hands-on with it. Â
The device is made to be docked with a hardware keyboard. One of the available accessories is a hardware dock that holds a keyboard and props the iPad at an angle designed to make it usable as a display.
But what about a mouse? Can you connect a mouse to this thing? Moving your hands from the hardware keyboard, Â to the screen for moving the cursor, and then back to the keyboard for more typing, is going to be awkward. The iPad hardware specs show no sign of a mouse, or anywhere to plug in a mouse.
