Apple has apparently backed off from its Droid X attack video, in which it claimed to show that the device suffered from the same antenna woes as does the iPhone 4. The Droid X video, along with all the other videos claiming to show other phones suffer from antenna problems, have been pulled from Apple's Web site.
Apple's attack video claimed to show that the Droid X has the same kind of antenna problems as does the iPhone 4. However, I was unable to duplicate Apple's results, and neither could endgadget or PC Magazine.
Motorola took out full page ads in national newspapers and took a whack at the poor iPhone 4 reception, with the headline "No Jacket Required," and saying, "At Motorola, we believe a customer shouldn't have to dress up their phone for it to work properly."
Only a few days after that ad ran, Apple pulled its Droid X antenna video, and similar videos it made about other phones, from its Web site. Coincidence? You decide.
The Droid X and other videos used to be on Apple's http://www.apple.com/antenna/ page. They're there no longer. Instead, there's marketing information about Apple's Apple's Antenna Design and Test Labs.
Apple told CNet that the Droid X and other antenna videos are on Apple's YouTube.com/Apple channel. It's true that they're there, but you'll have to look long and hard for them. You won't find them on the section on the right-hand side of the screen that shows videos from as long as a month ago, even though the antenna videos are of a much more recent vintage.
You'll have to click Uploads, then type Droid X into the search box to find it. Apple seems to have spent time hiding these videos, as if they're the company's crazy aunt in the attic. Clearly, Apple has decided that the videos have rebounded against the company. It would be better if Apple pulled them entirely, but hiding them is the next best thing.
