By Richi Jennings
. November 22, 2010. Here we are: more Apple iPad 2.0 rumors. Looks like the release date is April, and specs include cameras, CDMA, and a faster CPU. Oh, it'll be thinner and lighter, too, so there's no point buying one now. In IT Blogwatch, bloggers predict perfect fanboi fantasies.
Your humble blogwatcher curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment. Not to mention the Star Wars Talk to Your Kids PSA...
(AAPL) Gregg Keizer reports:
According to Brian Marshall of Gleacher & Co., Apple will take an annual refresh path for its tablet, just as it has for the iPhone. ... April, a year after the original's launch. Jonny Evans sums up the supposition:
Analysts and bloggers have been speculating ... [about] the next-generation iPad ... a thinner form factor ... a higher-resolution display. ... Marshall said the second iPad will be essentially the same as the first ... [but with] two cameras. ... That would let iPad users run FaceTime.
Apple will introduce a "World iPad" based on one of Qualcomm's multimode CDMA-GSM chips. Yong Lei quips, "Expect plenty of eBay auctions in 2011":
It will be thinner ... lighter. ... LiquidMetal technology ... carbon fiber.
Based on the potentially multi-core ARM Cortex A9 chip ... [or] Apple may even leapfrog the A9 and go for ... ARM's 'Eagle'.
The display will be higher-res.
It will sell millions. ... I'm expecting ever-more aggressive prices.
The Apple iPad 2 might be on sale in April of 2011. ... Apple have already named three suppliers for printed circuit boards for the new product ... [says] information from Taipei. ... Four additional suppliers could be added around February 2011, say various other sources, meaning that the product could very well be produced in the first quarter. But Dave Parrack is not a fanboi:
Apple releases updates for the iPhone every 12 months. ... No reason to believe Apple wont ... with the iPad. ... [It] enables the company to maximize its revenues as the fanboys buy each new release for the (sometimes major, sometimes minor) feature upgrades added. Meanwhile, Ezra Klein warns against waiting:
I dont think very much will change, to be honest. [It] will probably be marginally thinner and lighter ... and a camera or cameras are surely a must. .... Would anyone actually use their iPad 2 as a digital camera? Probably not. ... All those people who resisted the lure ... in order to wait for the sequel can finally buy in. ... Assuming they havent bought a different tablet (of which there are many) by that time.
When the iPad came out, I decided to wait for the second generation before putting down that kind of money. I wish I hadn't. And Finally...Star Wars Talk to Your Kids PSA
