Having problems with your Samsung Intercept since installing the Android 2.2 upgrade? You aren't alone.
Android Power has received numerous reports from users whose phones have been bricked since receiving the Froyo update. Many of them have said they lost all of the data on their devices, including files stored on their SD cards. Some users have reported having to get entirely new units to replace their fried phones.
A variety of unconfirmed info is floating around the Web today, some of which suggests Samsung has identified a problem and is relaunching the Intercept's Froyo rollout with an updated version of the software.
I reached out to both Samsung and Sprint to get the official word on what's up. While Samsung has yet to get back to me, a spokesperson from Sprint confirmed that the carrier is looking into issues with the Intercept's Froyo upgrade and working to get a fix in action.
"Some users have reported their device to be unresponsive after the upgrade is completed," she said. "We apologize for any inconvenience while we investigate the issue and get it corrected as quickly as possible."
According to some reports, Sprint stores are receiving a software patch that's relatively easy to apply and shouldn't result in data loss, as those early repairs did. I called around to a handful of locations to see if I could confirm this. Technicians at some stores told me they did in fact have such a patch available; reps at other stores said they didn't yet have the fix but were expecting to receive it within the next couple days.
You can find alleged leaked versions of the patch online, but for the sake of your warranty (and your sanity), it might be worth contacting Sprint and letting them do the dirty work for you. You can either head into a Sprint store for instructions or call 1-888-211-4PCS to get started.
