Apple OS X Lion delay? iPhone 5 for August? Oh my...

All change on the key Apple [AAPL] release schedule rumor merry-go-round, OS X Lion reportedly won't ship today while the iPhone 5 seems seemingly set to make its first appearance in August.

Lion for Friday?

The big news for most Mac users, particularly the millions most likely to be dusting off their iTunes accounts for the purchase and download of OS X Lion is a move to delay its introduction until Friday or next week.

That's a disappointment, most everyone expected the software to digitally ship via Apple's App Store today.

Chinese Mac website, MIC Gadgets, claims display teams at Pudong, China store are preparing the OS for introduction on Friday night, July 15. That makes a degree of sense as the last four iterations of Lion have shipped on a Friday.

This is open season for rumor: In a Tweet, Loop Insight's Jim Dalrymple advised readers not to expect the OS to ship today, while Arstechnica's John Siracusa says Lion won't ship this week.

Of course, Apple being Apple, the new OS could still surprise us when the company decides to let the cat out.

Jobs for the iBoys (and iGirls)

iPhone rumors take a rise this morning on strength of new job ads on UK recruitment site, Reed. Apple is recruiting iPhone sales specialists for a two-week stint in August, according to Cnet.

"Our client, Apple, one of the largest consumer electronic hardware and software companies in the world are seeking full-time iPhone Sales Staff for an exciting project to work 5 days a week (Tuesday-Saturday) for the period 16th August - 29th October within key retail store."

The £75/day jobs are situated at various locations across the UK and require staff have experience selling or promoting mobile phones, or in possession of "advanced user experience of iPhones."

BGR is also chiming in with its expectations: A source told the website Apple plans to hold an event "in the beginning or middle of August to announce the new iPhone, with availability to follow in the last week of August".

That's dead against previous Reuters reports citing September as the likely launch point for the new iOS phones.

Is it likely Apple has moved from a September to an August launch? I'd observe that Apple has held at least one of its regular iPod events in August in the past (I'm sorry, I can't remember which year).

I'd also argue that iPhone sales are likely being impacted by customers who are holding out for iPhone 5. This may have forced Apple management's hand.
