3G iPhone, June 9th

Agam Shah, IDG News Service is saying that the 3G iPhone will be announced on June 9th at the Apple WWDC.  This information jibes  pretty well with my early February predictions.  However, just because Apple will announce it on June 9th, doesn't mean that they will ship the next day.  Apple has typically had about a six week lag between announcing products and delivering them.  That would put the release date (when you and I can get our grubby hands on them) at July 21st - thereabouts.

I've cleared out my calendar for sitting online in the New York heat in mid-July.  I am sure I'll be buying whatever the per-customer limit is at that point.

Agam Shah also expects updated MacBook and iPod lines.  I personally think the chances of a new laptop are far greater than anything in the iPod department.  Apple usually has a separate event for iPod hardware updates.  The iPod Touches WILL receive the new 2.0 software however, and Apple might play with the pricing scheme as well.

Issues in 3G iPhone deployment sited by the article include AT&T's network which is already being stretched by the first generation iPhone's much slower EDGE data usage.  The rollout of AT&T's US 3G network will obviously play a large part in the success of the 3G iphone.

You already know what the answer is... YES! The 3G is going to be around for awhile, and at it's current price, you can't go wrong. Best phone out there, bar none!

instinct

does anyone think the sprint Instinct will effect apple sales, i don't but i want to know what other think. i think the 2nd gen iphone is going to be wayyy cooler than any think sprint offers.

Well, I think the reason

Well, I think the reason that there was a 6 week delay for the 1st gen iPhone could have been because Apple wasn't sure if the FCC would hit them with something they didn't know. They wanted to be cautious and it paid off. It's quite possible that they have approval right now, if the rumors of Foxconn getting a production order already is true. they can't produce iPhones in quantity till they get FCC approval.

My suggestion (if Steve Jobs wants to shake things up) open up the WWDC with some sort of software annoucements. have the WWDC. Then have an event at the end of WWDC, and announce the new iPhone as the "one last thing". Otherwise, all the developers will be distracted the entire WWDC day dreaming about their 3G 32GB iPhone.

Why would they wait 6 weeks

Why would they wait 6 weeks to release the new iPhone after they announce it? Edge iPhone sales would come to a stand still.

Probably they gonna cut the

Probably they gonna cut the price of the 1st gen iPhone...

yeah that's the reason I

yeah that's the reason I have to lock down my credit card in apple stores and att stores. I have to remeber if i buy an iPhone now, I will be very sad (and out of a LOT of money) when the new iPhone comes out...

to gauge demand and get appropriate supplies

They often do this.
among other reasons, it helps them calculate demand and assure adequate parts supplies, etc.

Apple needs to gauge

Apple needs to gauge interest in a 2nd Gen iPhone. Are you kidding? The 2nd Gen iPhone is the # 1 reason the US Government Recession checks aren't going to be cashed and spent till June! They just have to find some way to not tick off all the guys and gals that buy their 1st gen iPhone in May/June.

Apple knows now it's got a product people WANT. They don't have to worry about that at all. And with the SDK and iPhone 2.0, the competition has a lot of work to do to catch up with the newcomer Apple.
