Agam Shah, IDG News Service is saying that the 3G iPhone will be announced on June 9th at the Apple WWDC. This information jibes pretty well with my early February predictions. However, just because Apple will announce it on June 9th, doesn't mean that they will ship the next day. Apple has typically had about a six week lag between announcing products and delivering them. That would put the release date (when you and I can get our grubby hands on them) at July 21st - thereabouts.
I've cleared out my calendar for sitting online in the New York heat in mid-July. I am sure I'll be buying whatever the per-customer limit is at that point.
Agam Shah also expects updated MacBook and iPod lines. I personally think the chances of a new laptop are far greater than anything in the iPod department. Apple usually has a separate event for iPod hardware updates. The iPod Touches WILL receive the new 2.0 software however, and Apple might play with the pricing scheme as well.
Issues in 3G iPhone deployment sited by the article include AT&T's network which is already being stretched by the first generation iPhone's much slower EDGE data usage. The rollout of AT&T's US 3G network will obviously play a large part in the success of the 3G iphone.
