A bill to ban Wikipedia? Say it isn't so.

I totally have to agree with the blog here, "U.S. senator: It's time to ban Wikipedia in schools, libraries", especially when it comes to vagueness of this bill. Specifically, I refer to the use of Wikipedia. Yeah, kids today use the interactive Wikipedia a lot - perhaps too much (my son is no exception) - however, I think that's simply because it easy to navigate and zeroes in well on specific data. I suppose we could get the bill to target social networking sites like MySpace as far as their use on computers used in schools, but I think public libraries should be excluded from the ban. They're another matter because they're public. I can see banning MySpace from school computers because social networking (for the most part) plays no part in our childrens' education - at least not the education they're receiving from our public education institutions. Educational resources should be limited to learning materials, not socializing skills. Granted, socializing skills are an assets to all students, however that can be readily pursued at home or even at the library. Wikipedia should not be banned because it's proved to be an effective tool for research.
