Hitting the Security Nerve

Another stupid credit card thief

The owner of a car in New Orleans reported that her purse had been taken from her unlocked car. She also reported that her credit card company said the card had been used to buy a ticket to the Saints / Vikings football game. So the cops showed up at the game right before halftime, and the 15-year old perp's guilty butt was planted right in the assigned seat on his ticket. Brilliant.

So a few points of observation / free advice:

  1. If you steal a credit card and use it to buy a ticket to a football game, DON'T sit in the seat on the ticket. I am pretty sure the cops came there expecting not to find the guy sitting there, but they had to follow the lead and got lucky.
  2. This kid is either really dumb, or he is calling out for help. Even a 15-year old in the middle of puberty has more sense than that. The article says the kid "apologized and told the detectives he has a problem taking things that don't belong to him". I hope he gets some help.
  3. Don't leave you car door unlocked, ESPECIALLY in New Orleans (I grew up real close to New Orleans - it ain't exactly known for its low crime). The police major in the story said "that a substantial portion of burglary complaints come from people who left valuable items inside an unsecured vehicle." It is called "low hanging fruit" people. If you make it easy for the robber to rob you, then he will oblige.
  4. Quit putting your hope in the Saints. They will ALWAYS let you down.

What People Are Saying

Everybody should keep their

Everybody should keep their credit cards in a safe place. I wonder why some people are ignoring keeping their valuable things in safe place. There are thieves online, there are also many thieves offline especially if it's about credit cards.

Item three: Give a thief an

Item three: Give a thief an opportunity, and they will take it.

Item four: That is so true...........but still, go Saints!

hmm

I think the low hanging fruit comment was a good one.

Kinda like how hackers go for windows computers an much less often for macs. (Yes you still need AV and antispyware on a mac. Of course, if you don't think so, go ahead without it. I've seen bad stuff in action.)
