Apple announces October 14th laptop event (brick)

Apples looooooong anticipated laptop event has finally been legitimized after months of speculation and rumor...October 14th marks the date that the new MacBooks will be announced.

The rumors have reached a fever pitch with Chinese websites throwing out purported MacBook shells hand over fist.

If you haven't read already, I laid out my predictions last month:

It is becoming clear that early/mid October is the time for new MacBooks to hit the streets. Updates are due across the whole portable line, MacBooks, Airs, and Pros. It is also conceivable that Apple could introduce a new line of portable device.

Lots of rumors and inside information have already begun swirling. I'll devote the next week to putting it all together ... what have you heard?

New Apple MacBook Series:
MacBook Pro
MacBook
MacBook Air

And then there is the matter a certain glass trackpad and of the brick....

What People Are Saying

going by that image...

i'm thinking
Black Metal Macbooks?
14.1" Screens?
definitely doesn't look 16:9; though...

Misstatement of fact... but still excited

I hate to quibble, but "October 14th marks the date that the new MacBooks will be announced" is not a factual statement, but conjecture. All that we definitely know as fact is that Apple will have a "notebook" event on October 14, which does not necessarily suggest that they will be new MacBooks. Apple could announce an entirely new notebook product line. Just pointing this out in the interest of good journalism. It's not like Apple hasn't faked us out before or anything. :)

All quibbling aside, I am totally psyched about this. My 4 year old iBook G4 hard drive crashed last month about the time that the Oct 14 rumors started circulating so I decided to wait it out. I'm dyin', man, DYIN'!! I feel like I'm in PC purgatory on my work Winblows laptop.

Yo Steve! Gimme some nice Apple goodness!!!

Low-end Notebook

The most important rumor, is the one claiming that Apple will release a low-end notebook computer. In this economy, that is what Apple's product line needs the most.

MacBook Orgy ..... Finally !

Phew...Finally....! I am a big fan of the Emperor, but he waited tooooo long for this notebook update. Especially since the iPod and the iPhone did something that no other Apple products have done in a long while: turned true blue PC and Windows users into Mac buyers. He should take every opportunity to pounce on this halo effect. I doubt the rumours that there is a MacTablet being introduced on Oct.14 (maybe Spring 2009). But the price of the MacBooks will be a major shot in the face of Toshiba, Dell, and HP who continue to build problematic laptop products at reduced consumer prices and riding on Windows-Vista OS. This overt grab of market share by Jobs & Company will only explode into overdrive and we will likely see the MacBook product range take at least a 10 % share of the market. Hold on to your seats because 2009 will be Apple's year....they may even buy IBM. Don't worry about the market melt-down....even companies are beginning to look for alternatives to Windows-Vista notebooks !
