Gartner's latest research shows continued growth for the Macintosh platform at a rate far exceeding the PC world in general - at least in the US. IDC research largely backs this data up.
The most staggering numbers for the Macintosh platform come from the US where Apple again outgained the industry as a whole. In Q2 Mac sales gained at a rate nine times the PC - 4% to 36%.
Although Apple is in the process of passing Acer (and the Packard Bell and Gateway subsidiaries), it is still a third to a quarter the size of Dell and HP.
What would happen if you included iPod touches and iPhones in this matrix? We know Apple sold 1 million iPhones last weekend. I am not sure if Apple would pass HP or Dell but it would be very close.
US Market Share 2Q-2008 vs. 2Q-2007
Apple still hasn't made a big dent in the Global market share coming in below fifth place at under 4.4%. Apple's gains weren't reported by either organization so we don't know for sure how close they are to the leaders.
Global Market Share 2Q-2008 vs. 2Q-2007
Again, another very heathy quarter for Apple in a very tumultuaous global economy.
