Apple versus Google

Apple's iPhone 2.2 to get Mobile Safari overhaul

iPhone Atlas reveals that Mobile Safari in the iPhone 2.2 will be changed much from what we are used to. Their sources, who broke Apple's NDA, reveal that the Google search bar has moved permanently to the top of the browser bar. Additionally, the refresh button has moved into the URL textbox (see below). iPhone Atlas didn't mention whether or not the Google and URL textbox would resize based on where text would be entered, but this would make worlds of sense and would fit the smart iPhone interface well.

Since Safari is getting an overhaul, it is doubtful that Apple is stopping with just the design refreshes. Hopefully we'll see some of those javascript performance improvements that have made their way into the latest Webkits.

Wired thinks that there will also be a interesting sort of "push cut and paste" added soon that will work sort of like the "open with" file menu. While the idea is intriguing, nothing like this has been demonstrated in any of the beta releases so far.
