Computing From the Front Lines

Arduino for micro-deployment

I'm a sucker for the idea of having of multiple computing devices around the house doing and monitoring different things. I think it's the childhood memories of lots of flashing lights on control panels marked with completely useless names.

I like the idea of the Chumby, which has the display, but for all those discrete monitoring/control devices I prefer the idea of the Arduino board. About the size of a pack of a stick gum, and with USB and analog and digital I/O.

Network access is missing, so it couldn't be used for live connectivity without sacrificing some of the I/O, but I can still see some interesting uses of such a small board.

Arduino Connectivity

Hi.... network access is *not* missing... there are now three off-the-shelf solutions for adding ethernet to an Arduino board.

Cheers!
