Are Oracle and Virtual Iron dating?

While EMC held the tech spotlight for news in New England recently, another company involved in virtualization has also been attracting attention. If you travel north on Route 495 from EMC you'll come to what we in Massachusetts fondly call the old Wang towers. If you haven't ever heard of Wang Labs, just think of it as another woulda shoulda coulda company along the lines of Data General and Prime Computer. Old history. But in one of those towers (now called CrossPoint Towers) is a company named Virtual Iron which sells industry standard virtualization, sold through the channel and run by Ed Walsh who used to run EMC's Information Management Software Group. The company so far has stayed in the server virtualization space. And the iron in Virtual Iron really is virtual, this is a software only company.
Of late, the industry speculation has been that Oracle is looking to acquire Virtual Iron. Neither company has confirmed or denied such talks. Virtual Iron might be a good fit for Oracle although it never struck me that Oracle's Larry Ellison wanted much to do with hardware whether virtual or iron. Virtual Iron has been around since 2003 and is one of the few virtualization companies with a decent track record and is delivering a product that customers want. I'd rather see them stay independent and grow, but then again I'm not an investor looking for a payout
