Apple versus Google

AT&T joins the Google Android parade with HTC Lancaster

AT&T looks like it will be the latest carrier to pick up an Android device.  Engadget got their hands on the latest gadget to bear the Google Operating system.

Dubbed Lancaster (not LAN-Caster), specs on the device are pretty standard.  The device has a paltry 320x240 screen (could this be a misprint?!) unlike the Pre, G1 and iPhone which have double the pixels at 320x480.  The camera is a respectable three megapixels and it includes a standard-speed ARM 11 processor.  The dimensions are 109x54x17mm.

This looks like a pretty standard HTC form factor as well.  As Engadget notes, AT&T is going to put their own "features on top of the OS, so you can expect to pay extra money for things like streaming video, maps and other stuff you can otherwise get free on the Internet.

Unless this thing is given away free with a plan (which isn't out of the question with a Google OS), I don't expect it to be a very big seller. It will compete with T-Mobile's (HTC) G1 and G2 and probably Samsung's i7500 in the US market.
