Ballmer, dead parrots, and dead deals

What part of "Yahoo doesn't want a thing to do with you" did Ballmer not get? The new lord and master of Microsoft seems to be deaf, as well as dumb, in his latest attempt to try to buy Yahoo.

Microsoft, along with billionaire investor Carl Icahn, who at 72 seems to be losing his business smarts, confirmed that they still wanted to buy Yahoo. All that Yahoo has to do, to get in on this new deal, is fire its board of directors.

In other words: "Dear Yahoo leadership. You recently turned our offer down to buy your company. Then, you decided to turn down our offer to buy the search part of your company. Please quit your jobs so we can replace you with people who will take our lowball offer. Thank you very much. Ballmer and Icahn."

Just how stupid is Ballmer? The deal is dead.

With apologies to Monty Python, The deal is not pinin'! The deal passed on! This deal is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-DEAL!!

For over a month now Icahn has been trying to drum up support for a hostile take over of the Yahoo board. It hasn't worked. Now, for reasons beyond me, Ballmer and Icahn are trying to get people excited about a deal strategy that's already failed. To paraphrase the Dead Parrot sketch again, "Mate, this deal wouldn't "voom" if you put four million volts through it! 'E's bleedin' demised!"

The only thing that Ballmer has managed to do in this whole mess is to force Yahoo into Google's arms. Good going Ballmer, in your irrational hatred of Google, you made your dumbest move ever by making Google's online advertising business even stronger!

Way to go guy! And, now, you're showing that you can't even learn from your own mistakes.

Don't you have anything better to do Ballmer? Say, trying to get Windows Seven done as fast as possible?

Remember, you read it here first kids: Fire Ballmer.

What People Are Saying

More mindless Microsoft-bashing by Steven

"...irrational hatred of Google..."

Coming from a habitual Microsoft-basher calling Ballmer "dumb" and "stupid."

I realize blogs are for opinions but, Steven, yours is tied to ComputerWorld, allegedly a professional news organization. Your endless Microsoft-bashing posts are fact light tantrums thinly veiled to hide your santimony over Microsoft not going open source with all its software.

I like Yahoo. It's my default web page. Furthermore, I don't see any synergy between Microsoft and Yahoo so my heart's not broken the deal didn't work out.

However, where's the objective balance journalists are supposed to adhere to? The fact is Yahoo is poorly led and needs to either learn to compete or parnter with someone who can lead them by the hand.

Yahoo's stock went up on news of Microsoft's offer and tanked after it was withdrawn. Key Yahoo employers ran for the door AFTER the deal collapsed. Partnering with Google is proof Yahoo is tossing in the towel with their search engine. Proof Yahoo can't compete. Proof Yahoo's management has no vision or claims to leadership.

You claim Microsoft made a "lowball offer." This isn't supported by the facts. Yahoo's stock is in the cellar again trading at $24.33. Personally, I wouldn't buy it at that price. Would you?

It's funny. Microsoft's dominance on the desktop and browser has you throwing fits but Google's with search engines is fine and dandy just as long as it pokes a stick in the eye of Ballmer.

Icahn and MS: Behaving like gangsters

What ever happened to just selling products on their own merits, rather than compensating for a company's incompetence by assimilating the competition?

The fact that Yahoo is a publicly traded company is no excuse for Microsoft and Icahn to behave like gangsters.

Isn't there some kind of law to prevent this thuggish behaviour, like the business equivalent of harassment and intimidation?

Microsoft Leeching and Poaching

Why should it take two billionaires to take the cow's cream away from Yahoo? Why can't Microsoft build up it's own products, using it's own software, it's own people instead?

The real truth behind Microsoft is that of money, buy everything that everyone else uses, then lock them into yours only, so they all depend upon you. Once that happens, you can sue everyone else who gets in your way, then buy more companies to take their efforts and works to be claimed as yours...

How is this anything but like a criminal? Microsoft is just like the RIAA and MPAA monopolies, because they all use the works of other individuals for their own benefit.

Proxy Ballmer Out Instead

Ballmer is the same guy who, "In 2001 Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer referred to Linux as a "cancer" because of the effects of the GPL.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has claimed that the Linux OS (operating system) infringes on his firm's intellectual property."

Just how much Open Source Intellectual Property is Microsoft Infringing upon?

Ballmer is all FUD! He is a joke, and Microsoft has no real leadership behind him, as he will only think to buy, borrow and take rather than invent, build and innovate, as we everyone can see for themselves how the New Leader of Microsoft totally ducks more eggs headed his way!

Open source is property?

What a joke. Open source is founded on the "ideal" that there is no such thing as intellectual property and that software must be given away. Worse, the open source wanks claim that anything that merely touches their sacred code that they have given away must also be given away. It is for this reason that it IS a cancer that attempts to consume all.

As far as I am concerned they know what their software is worth when they give it away. Its not even worth stealing.

Yahoo is a Public Company

Steven, what part of "Yahoo is a public company" is it that you do not get? It's the shareholders, through their board votes, who will decide if their is/isn't a deal. Yahoo is not the private property of Yang. Yahoo is in a very weak position, and Microsoft has nothing to lose by trying to take advantage of that.

Yahoo is a public company,

Yahoo is a public company, but Microsoft and Icahn already tried buying it out the old-fashioned way. They failed. This is just more of the same old nonsense.

Steven

True to type

Ballmer and Icahn are simply acting true to type. They, like far too many managers, think simply deciding something makes it so without regard to what is, what can be, and what it takes to make it so. Then, if it doesn't happen, they believe its reality that is at fault and not their sacred omnipotent decision.

Severance

I think they should wait a year or two before firing him. That way they will pay less severance and GNU/Linux will be the elephant in the living room. ;-)
