Beware the online deals

I'm not much into purchasing health and beauty products online (or pretty much anywhere for that matter) but for those of you who are, be wary. The National Retail Federation reports that over two dozen such products are actually stolen goods - and worse, they may be contaminated. A theft ring was busted in Florida, after they'd stolen from retail and grocery stores and then sold those stolen goods online.

While the consumer isn't usually aware of storage requirements and whether or not retailers comply, the fact remains that if products aren't adequately warehoused, they do have the potential to become tainted and/or spoil. Tainted products can just end up harmlessly ineffective or, on the other end of the spectrum, they can be downright dangerous, posing a health hazard.

I think this recent theft ring arrest just shows us another example of how the ease of selling online can lure criminals to take advantage of consumers. I'm reminding my friends and family to purchase goods - especially these types of items - only from reputable vendors.
