Big companies ready to ax IT staff

If you work in a large IT organization you may want to polish up the resume. According to CDW's bimonthly survey of 1,059 IT decision makers, confidence among IT executives has hit a low point, and IT executives in large companies are the most pessimistic of all.

The survey was conducted from Nov 10 - 17, 2008. 

The good news is that companies still plan to invest in technology. More large business than mid-size businesses plan to invest in hardware (84% vs 77%) and software (87% to 78%) in 2009.

The bad news: They'll do it with fewer IT staff. And IT staff working in the biggest companies are the most likely to see layoffs. IT staff jobs in small businesses are the safest.
