Apple versus Google

CES is more interesting to this Apple Watcher than Macworld

As an 'Apple Guy' CES has always taken a back seat to Macworld.   Wow, not this year. This year I can't keep my eyes off of CES.  So many innovative products are coming out while the luster of the 17-inch Unibody MacBook wore off almost instantly.

Palm's Pre seems like one of the first worthy competitors to the iPhone (until you throw in the Sprint factor).  ASUS's EEE Keyboard that is actually a computer is a great idea.  I may not need one, but it shows that there is innovation going on out there.  The Sony P is also an interesting product.  I know it will chug with Vista, but I have to imagine Windows 7 will work acceptably on it.

New specs on SD cards and Sony memory sticks that top out at 2TB make me ponder the possibilities.  Today's biggest hard drive is still smaller than the SD card we'll see in a few years.  Incredible.

Google is putting Android on everything that takes a current.  Netbooks, iPod Touch-like devices, phones, tablets, toasters? etc.

Meanwhile, Apple has two updated application suites.  While I am really excited about Faces and Places in iPhoto, it is really a small part of my computing life.  I think I am beyond Garage Band Learn-to-Play and iMovie's new features are good, not great.

Apple's iWork.com, in its present state, is really anemic.  Imagine Google Docs if you stripped away all of the permissions, editing capabilities, and most of the collaboration.  Slap some pretty graphics on there and you have iWork.com.  iWork's native apps were also updated, but nothing that blew me away.

About the most interesting thing at Macworld was the HP Windows Home Server with Mac support.  That isn't a good sign.

This was Apple's last year at Macworld.  Rumors have it that they might join CES next year, or according to some vendors, the show might just move there without Apple or IDG.

At this point it hardly matters, I could care less.

What People Are Saying

I could care less. ..

The proper phrase is:

I couldn't care less.

As a journalist, you should know that.

Revolution turned just Evolution

Macworld 2009 was a sure fire graveyard show as soon as Uncle Steve announced he would be a no show. CES looked promising with all the "hype-sites" like the Dell Adamo teaser site popping up. But none the less both are a disappointment. All these company's are either cash strapped (clearly not the case with Apple) or just withholding the truly ground breaking (high dollar) products until the recession/depression breaks. Most "revolutionary introductions" are just "look, look we can do that too" introductions such as Dell's MacBook Air killer Adamo, Palms iPhone killer, Pre and Apple's own DRM Free iTunes Music Store (esk of Amazons already DRM free offerings) 2010/2011/2012 and 2013 will be ground breaking years

Apple has become boring...

When is the last time that Apple made an exciting product announcement?

They are stuck in a boring rut of incremental upgrades.

Apple is not coming out with

Apple is not coming out with boring products, they are still making far better products than any other company.

Come to think of it when has

Come to think of it when has Microsoft done anything really drastic too... Windows 7 oooh, Its about as exiting as from Tiger to Leopard or Fedora 9 to Fedora 10. Thats just a little bit better thats just a little bit more shiny. In the end no one cares. Windows 7 is still based on technology older than windows 98. Most computers still use a subsystem that was used in the very first microchip. (Apple Macs don't though...) In fact Microsoft's so called performance upgrades actually make the computer slower in the long run. That doesn't hold true for Unix like systems though. All because of 2 things... DLL hell and the registry.

Oh Yeah ....

Seth Weintraub is an "Apple Guy". Totally! All the FanboyZ lovez him, he blogs the Mac Mile! Think of John Gruber, and then take away John Gruber and add some Seth Weintraub, and you have Seth Weintraub the "Apple Guy"! For all those WINDOZE folks out there Seth is representin'. He's got the Cupertino Cred, the *Mac-Mac-A-Lack-A*, and the Infinite Loops. Uh huh, yeah, unh, yeah :)

Reach out to Seth, our MacDaddy!

I dislike Seth, he annoys

I dislike Seth, he annoys me.

I always wonder if Mac

I always wonder if Mac Fanboys know how utterly pathetic they look to the other 99.9 percent of society. God forbid anyone say anything negative about a boring Keynote.

Pointless

The only ones that look utterly pathetic are the individuals like you who accuse people of being fanboys, making pointless post, and generally spend their days trolling. GROW UP.

Liar

This is no "Apple Guy." What's more,I'm not terribly impressed by CES either... hpw about no trade shows and thus, no more ignorant reporting and rumours and lies, lies, lies.

Fire this guy.
