Compliance audits getting cheaper, easier

Financial Executives International's 2007 survey of the state of corporate compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations revealed that Section 404-related costs dropped 23% in 2006 over 2005. Interestingly, SarbOx-related auditor fees were essentially flat, averaging about $1.2 million both years. The reason behind the decline is that internal expenditures are dropping like a rock. That's because IT departments and IT vendors are getting better at automating a lot of the process. Kevin Cunningham, president of SailPoint Technologies Inc. in Austin, asserts that "the scope of an audit varies from company to company," so it's critical to have consistent tools that detect compliance risk factors before an auditor arrives at your door. This week SailPoint will announce that its easier to use Compliance IQ 2.0 software is available. The upgrade adds risk templates based on industry best practices and assigns risk scores to business processes that Compliance IQ determines are iffy. The new version also adds a risk advisor to give you guidance about how to address those high scores. Available now, Compliance IQ starts at $150,000.
