Curved displays in Macintosh future?
A few months ago Nuno Teixeira made some waves in the blogging community with their curved iMac redesign concept (pictured below). iSuppli is saying today that that design is entirely possible and, in fact, the year 2008 is year one for flexible active-matrix displays.
While many possibilities exist for these new products, one of the most exciting are new LCD monitors that wrap around the user like Nuno Teixeira's design. In the long term, this would allow for fully immersive environments and would take gaming to totally new levels.
According to Digitimes, other uses for flexible active matrix displays include e-readers, e-paper, signage, mobile phones, electronic display cards, electronic shelf labels, automotive screens, cloth/wearable and other novel products.Â
In fact, they predict that flexible display revenue will multiply by 35 times to $2.8 billion over last years revenue of $80 million. Jennifer Colegrove, senior analyst at iSuppli said:
"The flexible display market is at the beginning of its lifecycle. Starting this year flexible displays will provide consumers with innovative and fascinating products. For display suppliers, the advent of flexible AM technology will provide a viable, long-term revenue stream for a product that will be in high demand."
So perhaps that next iMac that Apple releases will have a lot more than Blu Ray?
