Great audio post Don. The current economic crisis is really just bringing to light what should have been done by CIOs all along - making business decisions, not technology decisions.
From day 1, CIO should have been partnering with the CFO. This makes sense from an internal politics point-of-view as well as a practical one. If the CIO can convince the CFO that an IT project is good for the company, than it's almost a sure thing when the question of funding comes up.
