It's clear skies at IT Blogwatch in which EMC provides a service solution. Not to mention nonsectarian orthography...
Brian is the brains:
EMC Corp. today is set to unveil a hosted backup and recovery service based on technology gained from its $76 million acquisition of Berkeley Data Systems in September. The new MozyEnterprise software-as-a-service product is the first offering in EMC's new Fortress line of hosted software. MozyEnterprise will provide subscription-based online backup and recovery services for remote PCs and remote Windows Server environments, EMC said. [read more]
EMC's Chuck says it isn't SaaS :
Let me get something off my chest ... I think the industry term SaaS (either software-as-a-service, or storage-as-a-service) misses the point entirely. Being a marketing guy, names matter to me.I prefer the term IMSP -- information management service providers -- as a more descriptive name of what we're seeing here. [read more]
Chris thinks it is:
EMC has announced its MozyEnterprise storage-as-a-service offering, which is based on its EMC Fortress delivery platform and provides online backup and data recovery for small and medium business, laptop users, remote and branch offices of enterprises, where it covers desktops and servers.

...
To ensure that it succeeds, EMC has signed up key resellers with the clout in enterprise markets such as Verizon Business, eFile Cabinet, FusionStorm, and TelX. [read more]
Joel has some details:
MozyEnterprise includes year-round, 24/7 telephone and e-mail support, "hot" backup capability for Exchange, SQL, and VMWare, and the previously mentioned administration features of EMC Fortress. As with other versions of Mozy, MozyEnterprise users are allowed to specify their own encryption key if desired. [read more]
Wade Roushs in:

Going with "SaaS", as it’s called, is a major switch if you're a hardware company, since it entails hosting your proprietary applications and/or your customers’ data on your own machines, providing access via the broadband Web, and charging for a subscription to the service, rather than for big iron.
