The CEO of the data storage company may have gotten Boston Red Sox players to wear the company's logo on their shirtsleeves, but he really needs to work on his pitching.
EMC top executive Joe Tucci was in Tokyo for baseball's opening games this week where the Red Sox split the wins with the Oakland As. Tucci was at a VIP reception at the New Otani Hotel that featured a "Green Monster-sized LED screen" that showed video clips of the Sox' 2007 champion season.
During the event, where Japanese and U.S. dignitaries mingled with the Red Sox players, some of the execs lined up to play a few rounds of catch with the Sox' popular relief pitcher Hidek i Okajima.
"Standing in front of the giant screen," wrote Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy, "Okajima softly tossed to Tucci, who was about 20 feet away. Tucci made the catch, and before you could say, 'Nuke LaLoosh,' gunned a wild heater that sailed far high and wide of a sprawling Okajima and punctured the precious LED screen."
No word on who's paying to replace the LED screen. And Tucci might want to stick to his storage job.
