Facebook turns five, time to earn a living

Today is Facebook's birthday. That would be one big cake to serve all 150 million partygoers. The company is giving out a free mystery gift, but it is really time to grow up and go and earn a living. The company needs to find a revenue stream that pays the rent. Social network sites are not free to run and when they get to the size of a Facebook, the infrastructure costs become enormous. Facebook was born in the time of a decent economy and lots of venture money to fund operations that might have a payoff someday. Times have changed and Facebook needs to decide what it wants to be when it grows up. That's a lot to ask of a five-year-old, but that is the way it is these days.
