It's easy to criticize government spending whether you're a conservative or a liberal or something in-between. But this government project, the IT Dashboard for Federal IT spending, is worth every penny.
Vivek Kundra, White House CIO, made the beta online service available yesterday. With it you can see how each agency is spending its IT dollars visually and with data. You can drill down into the 800-odd "major" IT investments the Feds are making on your behalf.
Plus, in the agency FAQ section, you can get some insight into how government CIOs approach major projects, including how they rank risk for each one.
It's fascinating reading (and seeing) of information that has beenavailable in many different forms from many different agencies. Now it's all in one, well-designed place.
Here's one government expenditure that I won't criticize. In fact, I say kudos to Uncle Sam...or Vivek Kundra.
