The World Is My Office

Free Wi-Fi at Starbucks starts tomorrow

ATHENS, GREECE -- I predicted back in October that Starbucks would announce free Wi-Fi in 2008, then reported the announcement in February. Now, a very solid rumor is circulating that the free Wi-Fi will start tomorrow at most U.S. Starbucks.

The Zatz Not Funny! blog says the free Wi-Fi starts tomorrow, and the author of that blog claims to have seen the corporate memo dictating a June 3 rollout.

The free Wi-Fi maxes out at 2 hours per day. In order to take advantage of it, you'll need to buy a Starbucks Card and use it at least once per month.

The 2 hour daily limit is fine for casual users who just want to check a little e-mail while they slurp down a latte, and nearly useless to bedouins who use Starbucks as an office and camp out there for hours on end.

Still, free is better than not free, and it's all trending in the right direction.

Just a quick correction

I work for Starbucks, and in the article you said "...you'll need to buy a Starbucks Card and use it at least once per month". That's not correct. You need to register the Starbucks card online to get the benefits (including the free syrups and milk modifiers).
