Good things come in small packages
There is the old saw, "you can never be too rich or too thin". Well, I have another... "you can never have too many laptops". Kidding aside, I just added a new laptop to my "collection". While my diminutive iPaq PDA is ultra-portable and my MacBook is small, fast and light, I recently decided I wanted something sized right in-between the two. After a little research, I came across the Asus Eee PC and decided to treat myself to one.
With built-in ethernet, WiFi, and a 7" widescreen display, this Linux OS based lilliputian laptop has exceeded my expectations. Booting up this little baby takes circa 25 seconds or so from the shock-resistant solid state hard drive.
While much smaller than that of my MacBook, the screen is bright, sharp and just large enough for me to comfortably see without the use of my reading glasses.
As far as the Linux OS is concerned, the version used in my laptop is Xandros and in my opinion contains all the Internet, email and productivity apps (including Open Office) one would usually want built right in.
All in all this small, lightweight (2lbs) and ultra-portable laptop will no doubt be my new travel companion for the foreseeable future!
