Google's vision for Chrome OS isn't going to replace what is on your desk now...unless you are working and reading this on Netbook that is. 

Google took the wraps off their Chrome OS yesterday. The OS will be a big deal. Here are some observations that you might not have considered.

Google today will make available automatic speech recognition captioning for its YouTube video selection.  You can also add captioning manually by following directions on YouTube's site here.

Invitations have gone out. Google is going to share information on their upcoming Chrome Operating system on Thursday morning at Googleplex HQ in Mountain View, California.

As the Android wave continues to engulf new markets of electronic devices, developers for the platform may get confused by all of the different hardware variables out there. Android isn't just for smartphones like the Motorola Droid. Device manufacturers are putting Android into everything from digital picture frames to cars. Where can developers find help?

Jeez, from the talk out there you'd think that Dell's just announced Mini 3 phone had no shot at success.  Dell, even though it hasn't been wildly successful over the past few years, still builds a lot of computers, including one of the thinnest and sexiest out there, the Adamo laptop line.

Their history in portable devices is less illustrious.  They had the Dell DJ and Axiom lines which both didn't live up to expectations.  However, the blame for those failures might be more on the OS than the hardware. 

Google's gift to travelers might have something else hidden inside.

Up until now, Google's Voice service has been a bit of a piecemeal apparatus.  You've needed regular land lines, a mobile number or another VOIP service for it to work.  Not anymore...

News hot off the wires is that Google is about to purchase the leading mobile ads vendor (besides Google itself), Admob .

Google today released a new web page that allows users to better see how much of their data are being stored by the Internet search giant. Google Dashboard lists all of Google's services that a user is subscribed to, in one location.

In a Blogpost on the subject,  a Google (Alma Whitten, Software Engineer, Yariv Adan, Product Manager, and Marissa Mayer, VP of Search Products and User Experience) said:

AT&T is suing Verizon for their recent "There's a map for that" ad campaign.  They complain that the maps that Verizon publishes could confuse people (even though they are clearly stating "3G Access") into thinking the white spaces on the map represent areas where AT&T doesn't have coverage.

Google today introduced a beta of their navigation app for the Android 2.0 powered Motorola Droid. The application is an extension of its Maps.app for Android but it has a lot of the qualities of personal navigation software products from TomTom, Navigon and Garmin.

Google is using another clever tactic to get mobile users to use their service. Today on the Google Voice Blog, they've announced that Google Voice is available to people who don't want (or aren't sure if they want) a Google phone number.
