HP updates project management software

Eric Vishria cites a report by the Economist Intelligence Unit where 40% of IT professionals surveyed said half of all IT initiatives had any positive impact on their companies' business. That's not whiney end users complaining after the fact. That's from the people who did the work.

Vishria is Hewlett-Packard's vice president of products in the software group. He uses that factoid to underscore the need for IT to adopt collaboration and project management tools.

Not surprisingly, that also happens to be a highlight in today's 7.5 release of HP's Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) software. The upgrade improves integration between PPM and HP's Quality Center tool for application development and Service Manager for IT operations staff. For example, project managers working in PPM can be informed when code has passed certain QA milestones as soon as tests results are filed in Quality Center.

Beyond integration with its own tools, with this version HP improved PPM's compatibility with Microsoft Project by embracing customized fields in the popular desktop software. Also, PPM 7.5 now includes video tutorials and pre-defined workflows for new users, among other updates.

Server pricing starts at $30,000.
