I hate Macs, too.

Well, not really, I just wanted to see if I could get six^W seven^W eight^W nine pages of comments on a post. Not to mention the odd death threat.

;-)

Re: 5 yr old irrepairable iBook

I've had a very similar experience with my older Macbook. I Was told that because the Mainboard was friend, I wouldn't be able to find a replacement anywhere. I went to Microcenter, Bestbuy, and nearly every other computer shop, and they all told me that they couldn't help, and I was best off contacting the manufacturer, in this case Apple. I sent them an email, and they replied within a few days and gave me a # where I can reach them. They told me because my Laptop was out of warranty, which it was, they wouldn't be able to fix it for free, but they did agree to fix my Laptop at cost to them. I ended up paying 60$ to get my laptop fixed, minus shipping, and I ended up as a happy camper. If I were you, I'd contact Apple directly, through an email, and present your problem in a logical, unemotional way, and I'm sure they'll help you out. They were super friendly and professional when dealing with me, and I was quite satisfied with my experience with them.

5 yr old irrepairable iBook

Dear Apple,
I purchased an iBook 5 years ago. Recently, either the screen broke or the logic board died. Either way,the "genius" at the "Genius Bar" told me my computer was "vintage", and no parts existed for it.
5 years old, and vintage.
If only I'd known back then that you could not support a product that was 5 years old.
Outrageous.
I used to be a Mac lover. Now, I tell anyone who will listen my story. I am an absolute Mac hater. Your company cannot support a product I paid almost $2000 for. Only 5 years ago.
And here I am, writing about product feedback on a website that has a "support" area.
You talk about the online community you wish to build; hell, I'm on it for five years, and now, I'm dead. Some community. Does anyone get to live long enough to be a teenager here?
I will send this letter to as many Mac websites and IBM sites as I can.
Corporate responsibility? Community development? All that nonsense on your dumb ads?
For what little it is worth, knowing that you think the lame euphemism of vintage is meant to alleviate my loathing towards a product that NO LONGER WORKS. Vintage?
Wrong word.
Useless.
Offended by your product, I remain,
Paul

I have a 4 year old Gateway (7405) laptop..

that is no longer repairable. Sure, they offer drivers and an nice FAQ, but it is no longer a repairable laptop. How bad is gateway for that? They suck. I cannot believe they don't support legacy parts for their older laptop models.
I used to be a gateway lover, now I hate them. I email this to everyone I know telling them to hate gateway too for not supporting 5 year old computer laptop hardware. In fact, I contacted my local BBB to let them know my virulent distain for gateway. They are the scourge of the planet and of all humanity. How dare they?!
