The Security Sector

If it's free, it's for me!

So I like free stuff. Who doesn't? For quite some time, I've been using ClamXav on my Macs without a hitch. But in my quest for free security software for the Mac, I stumbled across PC Tools antivirus called PC Tools iAntiVirusâ„¢ which immediately piqued my interest. I decided to give it a try on my Macbook. That did not go well, since this AV program requires OS X 10.5 and my sidekick notebook is using 10.4.11. Then I tried it on my newer lilliputian Mac Mini and it installed quickly and without any snags.

The interface is simple and slick and it’s running smoothly. Time will tell how well it works in the long run, but according to PC Tools, the Mac Version doesn't include signatures for Windows viruses - presumably making it faster as there’s less "clutter" within the signature database. At least there is now yet another option for us Mac users and with Apple gaining market share it's just a matter of time before the architects of digital disease set their sights on us.
