Apple versus Google

iPhone 3G code discovered

Looks like some code has been found in the latest development release of the iPhone SDK which makes reference to both 3G and EDGE networking. The SDK application Settings can be viewed in a text editor. Most of the application is machine code. However, some strings are visible to the text editor.

While it is beyond obvious that Apple is going to release a 3G iPhone soon, this is the first definitive evidence I've seen that it is coming. And soon.

The code...

..can be found in the middle of the preferences file and probably relates to network data switching preferences. The same application also includes..

..which obviously references EDGE Networking on present day iPhones.

TUAW readers have found links to an iController application and Jabber (Google Talk) code in the SDK as well. What else will be found in the coming weeks?
