iPhone OS 3.0, SDK introduced to the world on March 17th
Well, that's a fine surprise for this otherwise boring Thursday. Apple is going to release the next SDK for its mildly popular iPhone and iPod touch platform next week. How about that?
Details are, of course, slight at the moment. All that is in the press invite is:
Join us at an invitation-only event to learn about the new SDK and get a sneak peek at the iPhone OS 3.0 software. The event takes place at Apple, Building 4, Town Hall on March 17 at 10:00 a.m.
Apple could be including much desired, Pre-busting stuff like push notifications? Copy/paste? MMS multimedia? Internet Tethering? Throw me a bone someone?
Apple is calling it "an advanced preview of what we are building" so don't expect to have your hands on it immediately..perhaps a June WWDC makes more sense for that.
You'll recall that Apple released their iPhone 2.0 Enterprise SDK stuff at an event in March of last year at a similar type event. I expect the same sort of thing this year.
Recent news about 10 inch panels being delivered to Apple in Q3 have had people wondering if we might see a big iPod type tablet. This iPhone OS release could be the backbone of all of that.
Also, Gregg Keizer is covering this for Computerworld.
