iPhone to get A2DP Stereo Bluetooth?

iSuppli has come forth with the most comprehensive bill of materials yet for the iPhone 3G.  There are lots of fun parts included but the one that stuck out was CSR BluCor6 Rom which means that, yes, the iPhone can do A2DP Stereo Bluetooth, should Apple allow that in a software update.

The fun doesn't stop there.  The Cambridge Silicon Radio chip includes a new baseband CODEC option called AuriStream.  From CSR:

A new 'AuriStream' baseband codec can optionally be used to provide a 'toll' quality wireless link with around a 40% handset power reduction compared with CVSD. Or, it can provide wideband quality for the same power consumption as CVSD.

The incorporaton of the latest scanning techniques means that standby power consumption also tumbles -  by as much as 86%!

The advantages don’t stop there! BlueCore6 can deliver Class 1 performance with no power amplifier, and with an amazing link budget, helping you provide your users with class-leading performance.

...and it's smaller, and needs fewer external components than ever before.

Interestingly, If the Bluetooth headset also uses the Auristream technology, another 40% of power reduction can be made.  Perhaps we'll see some vendors rolling this technology out in special headsets made for the iPhone?

Oh, and they have another new product called 'RoadTunes'?  That would seem to have Apple written all over it.

What People Are Saying

Effective Bluetooth A2DP for iPhone G3

I use the Plantronics 590 headset with the universal BT A2DP transmitter. In addition to very nice Plantronics headset, I utilize the universal bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the standard stereo port of the iPhone (first gen or 3G) and pair the headset to the iPhone. I listen to stereo music with these great sounding headsets including movies, iTunes or whatever, and if a call comes in, the music volume goes off automatically and the bluetooth paired headsets is now a choice in phone actions and I can take the call talk and listen with this niffty head set and end the call and pick up in STEREO right where I left off. The key point, the universal adaptor has its own batteries, and is small disk size I velcro to the pouch for my iPhone. Works for me. When Apple permits A2DP from their own A2DP stack, then I just take off the transmitter, My investment is intact.
