Is THIS Apple's 'new Newton'?

SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. -- A contributor to the site Seeking Alpha claims to have "pieced together" a complete picture of the rumored forthcoming Apple ultra-mobile computer. He describes, essentially, a large iPhone with a 5.2" screen that will ship in the second half of 2008.

The device, he reports, will be designed to be "gripped with one hand on each side similar to a Sony PSP."

He claims that a source told him "Apple has shown significant interest in a 5.2″ 800 x 480 pixel touch screen design by Balda, a German company."

Like the iPhone, the device won't have a physical keyboard, but instead a software-based one used with the touch screen. Here's the report.

Though all this makes a lot of sense, consider it rumor until confirmed by other credible sources.

Already Got "One"

Already got the HTC Advantage X7501. Five inch screen - check. Touchscreen - check. Great web browser (Opera) - check. GPS - check. Phone - check. Camera - check. Keyboard - check. Always connected - check. Not tied to iAnything's limitations - check. Blows away my Newton 2100 (I know, I'll burn in hell for that remark. ) I've even stopped carrying my tablet 'cause this device does it all for me.

new newton

i dout that picture has any resembelance to the final prouduct (if there is one at all) it is just a photo shoped image of an iphone where the fillped the bottem of the iphone to the other side and a image of lepord desktop acting as the screen. If apple did have two buttons they would have them diffrent no a confusing "now do i press the right home button to do this or the left? tap oh darnit wrong button!" I also beleve they as they have with all but the iphone and itouch they will go with white as the defult color

I don't know if this is a

I don't know if this is a joke or not, but if it isn't, sign me up for one right now. I can't quite get the feel for the size of this device, but I'm wondering if a person will be able to multitouch those icons easily. I normally keep my dock hidden to the left, anyway.

I don't know how easy it will be to use, but the concept seems awesome. I've never typed on an iPhone, but if they can come close to a decent touch keyboard on this thing, it should be fine. I would prefer a regular keyboard, but if they offer an optional roll-up rubber keyboard, I'd be satisfied with that.

I think this would be a radical, runaway best seller, especially for the businessman or student. Could be pretty good for browsing, watching movies and reading. However, I'm sure it won't come cheap.

No keyboard no sale here

Folks get real how do we input on computers that run full desktop windows OS programs? duh a keyboard. NOT a thumb input band aid input, nor pen, nor touch screen only. Touch screen is great for replacing the need or space for any form of a mouse but the reality is mainstream users want a touch type keyboard. Especially for a computer which the market is hungry for in a coat size device.

No keyboard no sales, just look at UMPC's in 07 = 350K sold = weak; look at tablets = weak sales too.
