Is Ballmer the crazy aunt in the attic?

Steve Ballmer must take elocution lessons from President Bush: Microsoft today backed away from Ballmer's comments that Microsoft would consider extending the life of XP if customers asked for it. I guess it's just one more example of Ballmer suffering from foot-in-mouth disease.
As I wrote previously in my blog, Ballmer told a news conference in Belgium that Microsoft would extend XP's life if enough customers demanded it.
"XP will hit an end-of-life," Reuters quotes him as saying. "We have announced one. If customer feedback varies we can always wake up smarter."
Microsoft, though, today backed away from Ballmer's statement. James Niccolai of the IDG News Service quotes a spokesperson for Microsoft as saying there is no plan for extending XP's life.
The spokesperson, reading from a prepared Microsoft statement, said:
Our plan for Windows XP availability is unchanged. We're confident that's the right thing to do based on the feedback we've heard from our customers and partners.
In other words, ignore Ballmer. He's the crazy aunt we hide in the attic.
