The Security Sector

Is your head in the clouds?

Cloud computing is the latest trend in data storage. If you want, you can opt to forget about where you've put that important document your boss entrusted to you. Maybe you can even toss your trusty old finger drive because you can just send up all your data to the big warehouse in the sky.

If it sounds risky to you, then you're not alone in your thinking. According to this Washington Post article "A Mostly Cloudy Computing Forecast," the trend toward cloud storage is here to stay. Once you've got your information (photos, videos, documents, etc.) stored on an Internet server all you'll need is an Internet connection to get ready access to it. That access includes your laptop, your cellular phone, your mom's PC - any device that'll give you bandwidth.

Keeping control of your data stored in "the clouds" can be a challenge. If your Internet connection is quirky or otherwise unreliable, your access to data could be affected. Until then, I'll keep my head out of the clouds and finger drive "handy."

What People Are Saying

Too risky

I don't like the fact that you are storing all your personal data somewhere else. I like all my personal data staying on my computer and getting satisfaction in knowing that I'm the only one who can access it.
