It isn't just consumers. Businesses love Leopard (and hate Vista) too.

Changewave came out with its latest survey on PC buying this week which continue to show good signs for Apple vs. the rest of the computer industry.  Overall, the market looks flat to weakening for the big enterprise computer makers like HP and Dell.  Apple, according to Changewave's Jim Woods and Paul Carton will see no such slowdown.

Apple is maintaining or exceeding its year over year 50% marketshare improvements in both laptop and desktop computers that it was seeing at the begining of the year.  Importantly, corporate planned Mac purchases are at or near record highs with 7% for laptops and 6% for desktops.

Why is Apple more successful than Dell or HP?  Survey says...

Clearly, Leopard is pleasing the masses much, much more than Vista.  With XP getting killed off  of new machines in three months and its future support in question, wary IT execs may want to consider other, non-Windows options like Linux or Mac.

What People Are Saying

The more competition, the better

The more competition, the better for us, users. I am glad that Microsoft need to work harder to satisfy their customers. We have a choice!

I use Vista every day, but I like Mac OS X better.

I am a software programmer that uses PC on a daily (or hourly) basis. My main computer is a QuadCore PC with 3GB RAM running Vista. I have a two-year-old Mac Mini with only 512MB of RAM running OS X. I am constantly surprised that an entry-level Mac Mini can have such a fluid graphical response and user experience. Of course, I am still going to use a PC for my daily programming tasks, but I am seriously considering buying a MacBook for everything else that I do.

Vista is okay. But I have spent so much time on its incompatibility issues and permission problems... Microsoft may believe that they are directing the future of software, but every once in a while, they need to stop directing and just listen to what users want.

Mac vs Vista

Vista forced me to look at a Apple computer, which I had never really bothered to do, but I liked what I saw and bought one. Best PC I have ever purchased. Couldn`t believe how easy it worked and worked and worked….. you know, work, that stuff you did in-between upgrading windows, fixing windows, re-installing windows.

It's sad really. When you

It's sad really. When you hear that Apple is only 6-8% of all the computer out there, and only about 1-2% in the buinsess world. And I can only assume most of those are at graphics artist, editors and so on. It's sad, because of the little use they have in the business world, I would expect more like 95% happy with them.

You really don't know how to read a survey result, do you?

Consider the bulk of survey results, when graphed, look like a bell curve. Then consider what this survey probably asked. "On a scale of 1 to 5, rate your satisfaction with your operating system, where 5 = Very Satisfied, and 1 = Very Dissatisfied. The graph above only shows the 5s, which puts "Very Satisfied" smack in the middle of the bell curve for OS-X users. So the number of Mac users actually dissatisfied with OS-X are indeed few. Whereas the 8% at the edge of the bell curve for Windows Vista means the bulk of the users are either somewhat dissatisfied, or very dissatisfied with Vista. That means the bulk of Windows XP users, who are admittedly fairly happy with the operating system Microsoft is actively trying to kill off with nowhere to go but to Linux or OS-X. The winner? Linux! Why? Because Apple refuses to do the one thing that would make them the overnight Microsoft killer sensation, license OS-X to other hardware vendors like Dell and HP. Could you imagine an HP Touch with OS-X on it? That would be Sooooooo Kooooool! But Steve Jobs still doesn't get it. For some reason, he still doesn't realize he could pull the trigger on Microsoft and win the gunfight, but he'd have to shoot with someone else's pistol. That is to say he could win the OS wars hands down, but would have to sacrifice hardware exclusivity to do it.

Well done Ballmer

Ballmer is determined to bring down one of the largest financial empires single handedly! He could have just said - we won't force people to buy Vista with new PCs everyone gets a choice. He could have said - OK vista capable was a mistake - we'll either fix Vista or refund the price of the OS. He could have said - we'll make SP1 fix the incredibly bad performance of Vista on even the newest processors with 2gigs of memory and fast hard drives. He could have said - skip SP1, Vista is a dud - let's throw away all the code for Vista and move forward with Windows 7. He could have actually listened to beta testers who mentioned how much Vista slows down equipment. He could actually listen in press conferences when people talk about the problems with Vista instead of ignoring them and just say MS sold a lot of licenses for Vista. He could have listened when there was a petition created with over 100,000 votes to extend service for XP. He could have listened when the public said we hate Vista so much we want to be able to use the license to install a better OS - XP. He could have listened when all the hardware manufacturers said Vista isn't selling well, we need to offer XP. But nope he managed to IGNORE all of that and insist he was right about Vista and everyoene else in the world is wrong.

windows 7? Ha!

Microsoft hasn't even figured out yet where they went wrong with Vista so how are they going to get anything right in the future?

I never though I'd see the

I never though I'd see the day that I bashed windows over the mac, but that day has come. Vista is garbage, too many security holes, too high of sys requirements, too many problems. Mac on the other hand is at least fast and fairly reliable, however I recently converted to linux and it is fantastic, i recommend the new ubuntu hardy herron, comes out tomorrow 4/24/08

Vista is a copy of OS X + Object Desktop

Microsoft not only copied several features of OS X, but even went down so low to copy smaller companies. That includes a small company that created 'Object Desktop'
