It’s October; how's your cyber security holding up?

Anyone who listens to any media knows that October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but did you know that it’s also National Cyber Security Awareness Month? While it may not be critical from your medical health standpoint, it is crucial from your computer’s perspective.

There are lots of resources available to users who want to protect themselves and their children in their online endeavors: kits, video series, and programs. In my opinion though, at their core they’ve got one thing in common and that is a focus on remaining mindful. That means always knowing who you’re dealing with online and making sure your children do the same. It also means protecting your personal information – especially by using strong passwords and avoiding being lured into scams that make tempting promises. It also means backing up data, using anti-virus software, and knowing what to do in case your security happens to be threatened or breached despite your best efforts.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably already a pretty savvy surfer, but that doesn’t mean you can sit back without spreading the word. Kids and perhaps other users new to the Net learn best from other users who share success stories and security tips.
