Today was a big day in the iPhone world. News that was pent up for weeks and months poured forth like water. With a nod to Richi Jennings, I am attempting to sum it up here...
Silicon Alley Insider said iPhone demand would be unprecedented. This might be because Apple is rumored to have struck agreements with Radio Shack and Best Buy to sell the iPhone. Wow, that will certainly increase the sales footprint of the iPhone.
The news wasn't all good. AT&T revealed that it was going to charge an additional $5 for 200 SMS's a month. If you want more? Up to 1500 are $15/month. Ouch. Add to that the additional $10/month for 3G data and you are going to be receiving a pretty hefty monthly fee - no matter what plan you choose. Having the original iPhone may make more sense to some.
AT&T did deliver some soft, touchy feely videos for current and prospective customers - telling them to come iPrepared and hopefully saving everyone some time.
Not to be outdone, Apple released its own iPhone video - to help acquaint prospective customers of the existing and new features of the iPhone 3G.
You'll also have a new way to get music on your iPods and iPhones with the product (RED) music store opening up shortly.
The App store also got some news today with the first shots of the store hitting the web. Designing applications for the App Store will be outgoing Veteran Electronics Arts games developer Neil Young (nice name). He's starting his own company to focus on iPod/iPhone gaming.
In other Apple news, both Apple Retail Stores and Jonathan Ive (yet again) have won industry praise.
Whew. Bring on July 11!
