Pilot fish is an account manager for an IT service provider. Part of his job: Pitching the company's services to potential clients.
"I went to a customer to sell virtual hosting services," says fish, "and brought a fresh technical consultant with me for all technical questions."
Can you give us more details about your virtual hosting service? customer asks.
Fish turns to the consultant, who seems oddly nervous.
"Well," consultant replies, "when ... uh ... when ... we host ... we ... customers bring their servers ... then they're placed in a rack in our co-location center and then ... we ... uh ... we host them."
Incredulous, the customer looks at fish, then back at the consultant. And virtual hosting? he asks.
"Virtual hosting is the same as regular hosting, with the only exception being that the customer doesn't need to bring in any equipment," consultant says confidently.
"Needless to say," reports fish, "I went back to that customer a week later -- with a more skilled technical consultant."
