Latest Apple patch a must!

There's a new Apple patch that Mac OS X 10.5.5 users should apply sooner rather than later. While Apple doesn't actually "label" the bugs that this update fixes as "critical", I agree that from a security standpoint they're notable vulnerabilities. As Gregg Keizer explains in this Computerworld article "Apple releases Mac OS X 10.5.5, patches nearly 70 bugs" this latest Mac patch finally fixes the DNS flaw that allowed "bogus information into the Internet's routing infrastructure." (Mac users will remember that Apple's earlier attempt on July 31st didn't fully repair the flaw for Macs running client editions of OS X.)

In addition to repairing the DNS flaw, this patch is important if you use an iPhone or Palm PDA because bugs that affected the synchronization of those devices with your Mac (and your Mac with other Macs) also get fixed. I aim to stay on top of applying patches and this release was no different, but be advised this sucker is pretty big - it patches close to 70 bugs - so it took some time. You'll definitely have time to enjoy a good cup of coffee and thumb through the newspaper while you wait.
