The Security Sector

Looking for a job?

Making $188,000 for coordinating a temp clerical job. Well that's what one lucky contractor was paid for providing the IRS with a temporary employee who worked there for 11 months. Apparently, that worker did a job that ordinarily could have been done by a government employee with a $38,000 starting salary. This Governmentexec.com article "IRS paid contractor $188,000 to provide $38,000 clerk" revealed some distasteful waste of our taxpayer dollars going on at the IRS. Imaging spending nearly $2 million on a computer security system that they don't plan on using just yet. No mention is made of an anticipated launch date, but we know when it comes to any computing what is acceptable today will almost certainly be passé (or perhaps even totally useless) in no time at all. Squandering government funds (i.e. our taxpayer money) is never a palatable endeavor, but it seems even more disturbing when it's carried out by the Internal Revenue Service. Some service - more like disservice. I don't know about anyone else, but I certainly feel dissed. This little article was a real eyeopener, even though we all already know government is notorious for wasteful expenditures. Maybe making this public will foster some controls/restraint, but I'm not holding my breath.
