Machismo equals malware
According to this article, men are more confident in their online security than women are, but both are actually equally vulnerable. Hmmmm....
Now I am a man. And maybe it is because I am in the security field that this doesn't apply to me, but I KNOW I am just as vulnerable to online risks as anyone, including women. But the real question is this: Why was this study conducted?? Well, Larry Bridwell is the global security strategist at the company that conducted the study. He says:
"To be honest it's free for two reasons. First, giving away free security software that works is a great branding tool," said Bridwell.
"Secondly, it's got to be done. There's a huge pool of unprotected internet users out there spreading malware all over the place, and that hurts everyone."
OK, that actually makes sense to me. They need to know the sources. And it doesn't look the study was aimed at this issue specifically. It is just one of the points that was derived from the study. But I honestly just find this whole thing amusing. I found this bit to be amusing as well. It also comes from Mr. Bridwell:
"My gut feeling, because I'm a man, is that it is one of those societal gender things... Men feel that they are more in control of what they do. It's like map reading. In fact the risk is equal among the sexes."
I guess as a man he is qualified to make that statement. So the conclusion is: machismo equals malware. Guys, stop being so dang confident and realize that you are getting smacked just as much as anyone online. And you spread more malware than women!! STOP IT!!
