Macworld 2009 predictions - Software and Services

(Continued from Hardware predictions)

I think Macworld 2009 will mark Apple's real entry into software as a service.  Sure, Apple's MobileME is a SaaS model but it hadn't gotten off to a smooth start.

I think iWork will have a collaborative component on iWork.com.  The iWork '09 suite will be updated to use this.  Also, iLife components including iMovie will also get ties to online services.

iTunes should herald in the end of the DRM music era with announcements from Sony, Warner and Universal which will announce they are going to be selling DRM free music at variable pricing schemes.

Snow Leopard will be previewed as well and hopefully we'll see some screaming fast demos on the new hardware.  IT is ahead of schedule and should be released in the first half of 2009.

Time Capsule may see an update that will cache software updates for Soho users.

Google Picasa will be announced - but may not be previewed by Apple.

AppleTV could very well see another software update which could include the app store and games.  Pure speculation at this point.

The one more thing may be iPhone OS 3.0 which has lasers and stuff way cooler.
