Fresh from the success of its "Laptop Hunters" ad campaign, Microsoft is feeling pretty cocky about how it's doing against Apple --- so much so that Brad Brooks, Microsoft's corporate vice president for Windows consumer product marketing, says that Apple is now "scared" of Microsoft's success.
In an interview with Computerworld's Eric Lai, Brooks has some not very flattering things to say about Apple, notably calling the company "snarky." In explaining Microsoft's current ad campaign that focuses on price and value, he says:
About a year ago, I got on stage at a Microsoft conference and made the controversial statement that we're no longer going to be defined by somebody else's snarky attitude, that we're going to be defined by who we are and what we stand for.
When asked about Apple's most recent "Get a Mac" ads in response to Microsoft's ad campaign, he says that the Apple ads are being done because of the recent sales drop in Macs, and adds, "They're scared."
Somewhat surprisingly, Brooks also admitted in a backhand way that Vista has been quite problematic for Microsoft. Lai says at one point, "In other words, the PC ecosystem that was demoralized during Vista is now being reinvigorated with Windows 7." Brooks' response:
I was here during the Vista timeframe, and I can just tell you, this is a different day. We are all feeling very stoked.
