A little teaser ad greets us on Microsoft's Hardware webpage. It says "Say Goodbye to Laser". Since the bulk of Microsoft's non-gaming hardware is either keyboards or mice - and laser technology dominates the mouse world these days, I'd guess the traditional mouse is soon to go bye-bye.

What's replacing it? Perhaps Microsoft is also jumping on the multi-touch bandwagon. Glass trackpads seem to be the latest and greatest things. Maybe Microsoft is trying to steal Apple's thunder with a similar technology?
Apple is also rumored to be having an event on September 9th. Most likely iPods but during the last earnings call, Apple teased about something more. The technology world has been anxiously guessing what that would be.
Update: the image in on Microsoft's Website is called "hw_home_bluetrack_teaser.jpg" Bluetrack technology is a technology for using a mouse on various surfaces using a different "blue" laser rather than traditional red mouse lasers. It is also the world's largest selection of squeezable stress dolls.
It wouldn't be the first time that Microsoft tried to steal Apple's thunder. Microsoft demonstrated its Surface technology ahead of the release the original iPhone. Until now, not much has been made of Surface technology with expensive hotel eye candy boxes being the only real uses of the technology.
Somehow I don't see this new mouse overshadowing an iPod launch.
