With the good news comes the bad: On the same day Motorola announced it was making Android 4.0 available to its Droid Razr devices, Toshiba has said it's pushing back its plans to upgrade its Thrive tablets to the latest Android release.
Toshiba had previously promised an "end of spring" Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for its Thrive 7-inch and 10-inch tablets. In a recent message on its company forums, however, Toshiba changed that timeline and says it'll now aim for "early fall."
(I'll pause a minute for the collective sigh of disappointment. Ah, yes...there it is. Okay, back to it.)
"We are working hard to bring Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich to our Thrive tablets," the message, posted by an official company moderator account, announced. "While we originally estimated it would be ready this spring, we now estimate the update will be delivered to all Thrive 10-inch and 7-inch tablets by early fall. Apologies for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
Spring ended on June 19. The fall season officially begins on September 22.
Toshiba received an "incomplete" grade in my Android 4.0 report card, incidentally, for its complete lack of upgrade activity in the first quarter of the year.
I'll continue tracking the upgrade status of the Thrive as the year progresses. You can always find the latest upgrade info for it -- or any other phone or tablet -- in my Android 4.0 upgrade list.
